Er.. acupuncture? Try seeing some alternative therapist, or go and ask your GP about it, some GPs now know quite a lot about alternative therapy, but I'd recommend talking to a real doctor before you dive into alternate therapy.

I'm sure if there were a 'cure' people would be flocking to get it.

I know you don't want meds, but Cetirizine Hydrochloride tablets do it for me

Sorry, but I suffering really badly with the dreaded hayfever. Thankfully I don't have any exams this year but it is making me so ill. Is there anything I can do to reduce the symptoms? If at all possible, I would only use medication as a last result. Any ideas?

Check the news/weather for the pollen count, and if it's particuarly high, try to avoid going out on that day.

Keep your windows shut when you're at home, to avoid pollen getting in.

I've heard of some people dabbing vaseline at the bottom of their nostrils to try and 'catch' the pollen before it goes up the nose and causes the reaction.

If my eyes are quite bad, the only thing that works for me, is lying down and sleeping it off. Alternatively, try dampening a flannel, and placing it over your eyes (whilst you lie down, obviously).

The above is really pretty much all you can do without medication - and to be honest, it's probably not going to do a lot for you, if you have very severe hayfever. If my hunch is right, you're already on other medication, or have been on other medication for long periods before, which is why you're hesitant to use meds to treat your hayfever. But if you refuse to take eyedrops and antihistamines, you're just going to feel miserable. Hayfever is an awful thing, without meds. You really should speak to your GP for advice.

Alternatively, you can get antihistamines over the counter (e.g. Clarityn) so if you don't want to see a GP, you could just pop into Boots and seek advice there.

PS No such thing as a cure for hayfever. I wish.

I have really bad hayfever and the only thing that managed to get mine under control were some 120mg antihistamines (I think they are the strongest you can get) a steroid based nasal spray and eye drops all to be taken at the same time.

Sure it was a pain to take everything but the relief of just feeling normal and being able to enjoy the summer like everyone else made it worth it. Talk to your doc and he'll sort you out.

Ive suffered from bad hayfever since the age of 11 and have tried so many solutions. In terms of medication, im currently using Hayleve (Chlorophenamine Maleate) its been working wonders for me, I usually find that hayfever tablet have the side effect of making me drowsy, this one hasnt. Theres an injection you can get done through your GP, unfortunately you have to get it done 3 months in advance, so you may want to think about getting it done next winter, ask your GP about it.

i know it sounds VERY nasty but:

get a lil vaseline on your finger (not a huge amount) and place some in your nostrils and above lip, and under your eyes.. does wonders!

be sure to rub it in though.. you dont want to look greasy
