Am I the only one baffled at how the Liberal "Democrats" are so in favour of the EU? Watch

let's suppose that they prefer good economics (as is sometimes attributed to EU policies) to democracy - I can't think of a more substantive justification, because we can have good environmental policies (etc) via our own national democracy

if they preferred good economics, surely they should oppose the minimum/living wage, corporate taxes and high top band income tax rates, high welfare spending, etc in that it is pretty universally agreed that free market capitalism is the better economic model than social democracy regarding employment, GDP growth, long term quality of life, etc? they want the EU because they think that we might lose jobs from leaving, but surely they must realise that increasing the minimum wage and maintaining certain social regulations (e.g. paid vacation, mandatory maternity leave pay, etc) for businesses will *inevitably* cost jobs/GDP one way or another? if they think that the minimum wage's loss of jobs effect is worth it, then how is leaving the EU with all the political benefits *not* worth it, such as controlling immigration, making our own trade deals, not paying £40 mil. a day to the EU, being able to deport foreign criminals, etc?! I don't understand this at all. is anybody else equally perplexed? this is so massively hypocritical that it makes me laugh - I saw the liberal democrats in my town today and they were all promoting that we stay in the EU - I didn't approach them on their hypocrisy but I really wish I had now, because I want to understand why they have such a hilariously two-faced position.

Probably they are taking their lead from people who actually know what they are doing (the Conservative government).

The Conservatives took us in to the EEA under Ted Heath

The Conservatives signed the Single Market Act under Margaret Thatcher

The Conservatives signed the Maastricht Treaty under John Major

Now the Conservatives are fighting to win a referendum to secure Britain's membership of the EU for the long term.

When you see the benefits that flow to the UK from the EU give thanks to the Conservatives.

Because, of course, the Conservative's only care about money rather than the sovereignty of a nation or any sort democratic accountability/democracy. I guess it depends where you're priorities lie....
