How much will I be marked down (please help lol!)

Hiya,

I was doing my Individual and Society paper for Sociology AS and the question was "Discuss the view that their are a variety of Social Class groups in the UK".
So I made a little plan of which sociologists, concepts and theories I was going to refer to. Then, being a complete idiot, I wrote the essay as if the question was "Discuss the view that Social Class is irrelevant in the contemporary UK".
So basically, I've written the main body of the essay right because i've argued both points of view and referred to the right sociologist etc. I've just linked it wrong and my conclusion is completly wrong because I concluded we can create our own identity based on consumption, but social class is relevant due to the oppurtunities it gives us.
So how much will I get marked down?

Also, I put that a sociologist called Bordieu talks about conspicious consumption, when it was actually light!!

Luckily I got full marks on my last Sociology exam though, so I only need 100/150 to get an A.

Sorry it's a bit long, and thanks if anyone replies

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but have you not typed the same question twice?

Reply 2

My thoughts too. I spent minutes comparing those two questions.

yeah i think he wrote the same question twice. i asked my whole family to compare because i thought i read it wrong. lol

Oh haha, yes I had. Thanks for pointing that out, I've changed it now
Bet you were like "What!?"

You're completely stuffed... i wouldnt give you any marks at all for that answer

Lol, I spent ages comparing the two questions too, but concluded that it was because I don't do Sociology, and therefore couldn't possibly understand :p:

OK, as regard to how much you're going to be marked down, it really depends on your examiner; if you get a nice one, they'll probably work on the basis of 'positive marking' and awarding you for what you do have, whereas if you've got a nasty one, they'll probably mark you down.

Obviously you're going to lose marks on the basis that your conclusion is not entirely answering the question. On the other hand, you say the main body of your essay is correct, so you'll certainly get marks for knowledge and content. Do you know how much knowledge is weight against critical analysis (e.g. for R.S. it's 70% knowledge, 30% analysis - so if it's like that, you shouldn't be too badly off). Also - was that the only question on the exam paper; if not, you should worry even less, because it's effectively worth less, but if it was, try not to worry because you clearly demonstrated you knew your stuff - you just misinterpreted the question.

Hope that helps some

And I'd give you negative rep for that post if I wasn't in such a good mood. Everyone gets a little muddled in exams at some point, and worse, some people get muddled AND don't know anything - at least Livefortonight actually put scholars and everything, which will get marks.

:ditto: It will cost you marks because you haven't completely concentrated on the question, but since you still wrote about the right topic and you say it's only really your conclusion that was irrelevant, you should be OK.

Thanks, sunburnt note  Luckily it was only 26 marks and the whole grade is out of 240, so it's not the end of the world! I looked at a markscheme and it's only 7 marks for interpretation and analysis, so it's not bad really!

I hope that was sarcastic number9!

And thanks aswell Kellywood_5. Yeah, I hope so. Maybe the examiner will be so bored marking exam papers, they may have forgotton the actual question by the time they mark mine and not notice hehe

Well, if you do a question that is completely different to what you've been asked, don't expect to get anything for it :/

Yeah, know what you mean coldplasma, but it wasn't completely off topic as basically I did the opposite of what was asked, but you have to discuss both sides of the argument anyway, so it's only really my conclusion that is wrong.
