How do you become more confident when dealing with people face to face or over the phone? Could someone give me some advice. Can you get sacked for not being confident?

I'd say if you have a job where you speak on the phone a lot, a useful thing to do is write yourself a script to refer to. It can be as detailed as you like, from a few sparse notes to a long script that you can just read aloud. That helped for me when I had a telephone-heavy job, because it helped me remember to say everything I had to say and gave me something to refer to when I got a bit flustered.
