I'm an audio producer & engineer.

1st Question: Why would you want more rear speakers?

If you want better sound quality on the cheap you're better off moving the ones in the front to the back and then putting new ones in the front. Are they in the dash or in the doors? VW likes putting them on top of the dash on their basic sound systems, which isn't too bad a place really, although you can usually only fit 4in speakers in there. If you don't mind spending a couple of hundred quid then you have a lot more options in terms of what you can fit.

    Something like these:

Would go straight into the dash and give you a decent jump in sound quality just driven off the head unit. Your factory ones can then go in the back to keep rear seat passengers happy. You'll have to run some cables to the head unit though, and double check that your head unit has outputs for rear speakers. If not then it's new head unit time!

I just finished up fitting four sets of component speakers in the doors of my car. Definite upgrade over the factory components. That set me back £150 for two pairs of speakers, adapter rings, and speaker cable though, and even then they're not even mid-range speakers. That's not including the head unit which was another £100 too. I have a 2ch amp kicking around at home so I'll be amping up the front doors when I can figure out where to hide the amp.
