Hi, I have firmed Reading to start in September so am starting to look into accomodation. I would probably like to be in a catered hall (with a shared bathroom) but I have a couple of questions about them. When we looked round at the open day the only catered hall we visited was Windsor hall so I don't know what the others are like in comparison. Windsor hall had small kitchens but there didn't seem to be much space to sit around in the halls at all apart from being in your room. They also shared with about 20 other people and I was wondering if that's good or whether that is too many people. I would just like to know what the other catered halls are like in terms of space and how many people you share with, and also what it's like being catered instead of self catered. Also if any of them have any particular reputations for things.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The other catered, shared bathroom halls are St Patricks and Wantage. I have only been inside St Pats so I can't tell you about Wantage but here is the link to have a look at some photos https://www.reading.ac.uk/ready-to-s...red-halls.aspx
My friend stayed in Pats and she said there were about 10 people sharing a toilet and shower rooms in every block, some shower rooms have 6-8 showers in each one. She said she had no issues finding a free shower. They are also corridors and have kitchens, the kitchens very in size but are normally reasonable. Rooms also very in size but she said she had enough room and plenty of storage. Most people in Pats socialised in the common room, in their rooms or at meal times in Cafe Shamrock. Cafe Shamrock is different to Park Eat (near Windsor Hall). Its older so less like a bar and more a canteen. It still serves the same food. All catered Halls have a good repuatation for social life, normally because they don't have to worry about making sure they have money for food as they have that sorted.

I hope this helps and feel free to ask me any other questions. Sorry I can't tell you about Wantage, but maybe someone else will reply as well.

Thanks, this was really helpful. I heard that St pats isn't arranged into flats and is just corridoors, do you know how many people live on each corridoors? I know you said you don't know about wantage but do you know if it's in flats or not. Also, for the accommodation off campus is the security good and do they still have wardens like the ones on campus?
    Thanks
