Do transition metal ions appear coloured like how transition complex ions appear?
Can someone explain how each colour arises in both.
Thanks

Yes. But you have to understand that aqueous transition metals are complex ions with H2O as the ligand.

More information on transition metals and colour: http://www.chemguide.co.uk/inorganic...ns/colour.html.
