    This is the mass spec of pentan-2-one,

    To identify the fragment ions, you can use the m/z value as the Mr of the fragment.
    From there you have to just look at where the molecule could split and find a place that splits which has the correct Mr value.
    But please remember that fragment ions and even the moleucular ion have a positive charge
