Have you bought anything you think you needed for university but found out it wasn't a necessity?

I can't say there really is. I think when it comes to starting university and 'buying' things you always go by a list that you've composed of from other people, past students, uni suggestions and internet searches and sticking to that means you buy all the essentials and generally you need them all. I'm in second year now and still use a lot of the stuff I bought in first year - I've lost a lot along the way - but everything I didn't have, my housemates had when moving in in second year. It's like a circle really.
