i thought Law was taught on Jubilee? in which case you have quite a trip every day.

Its north campus... very close to Wollaton park and the bus stop.. not so close to Student Union, Trent or Sports Hall.

I lived in Derby and didn't like it one bit. i didnt like the people, the food, the boarding school feel to it all, the fact that breakfast finished at 9.30 and dinner finished at 8. FORMAL DINNERS ARE THE BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME EVER.

they have redecorated the rooms and put double glazing in.. so you shouldnt have the peeling paint and drafty windows i had. They've also redone the bar so its one of the biggest on campus. You may sill have to share a bathroom with 7 people.... on the positive side the bedrooms are some of the biggest on campus.

Sorry i dont have much positive to say about it!

No, it's in the Law and Social Sciences Building, next to the Hallward Library and opposite the Accommodation Office.

My friend has timed it at 4 minutes i think. Derby is basically close to everything and best of all next to the downs which is awesome in the summer. I really like Derby. You got any specific questions? What kind of room have you got? can give you more info.

I went for single study catered, 4 mins doesn't seem too bad but if there is better accom out there i would gladly pay £500-800 to change to ensuite or whatever if derby is really that bad! Or is sound devestation just a unique example of someone who didn't like it? Where do most of the law students live all in same accom or what?

All the halls are basically the same and ensuites are mostly in halls further away. All subjects are spread out round campus but there are quite a few lawyers in Derby this year. I really like Derby, seems like one of the less pretencious halls, with not much rivalry, quite chilled while still liking to party and not as many 'rahs'. Im sure by the first night you will think its the best on campus like everybody does heir own hall. Posted a few images of my room which is probably what you room will look like as a single study.

Aye. I'm in Derby. I feel like I'm one of the few members on this board that is actually in Derby.

What's it like? I have a single study. Do you have any pictures of your dorm that you could send me? I want to see where I'm moving 3000 miles to.

MOD EDIT: Please don't post your email address publibly.

What do you want pictures of? I already put room photos up but I can get pics of the dining room etc. tomorow. Oh and with a single study you will almost certainly not be around the quad but in the extension block, Matlock. Its alot more sociable than the rest of derby with 3 floors of thirty people! This is a picture of Matlock rather than the quad bit found here http://www.bbc.co.uk/nottingham/360/students/university/derby_hall.shtml which is right next door.

it's an up to date hall.everything's new now but it still looks a bit traditional. the rooms are bigger than say lincoln where i was previously, and it's got a nice feel about it.

You're not generally allowed to switch anyway, considering the fact that University Park is the campus that gets full the quickest. By clearing, there's usually not anymore places left at Uni Park campus.

Anyway, who said Derby Hall was bad!? I was in Derby Hall two years ago in single study bedroom - it's probably got some of the biggest bedrooms  I managed to fit about 8 people in my room, and in my block I had the best view over the downs - soooo gorgeous. I still remember walking back from lectures at 4pm in Winter and the sun was just setting, and all across the sky is purple and red and orange and it was beautiful. My block was an especially quiet block, which you come to appreciate when you're trying to sleep lol  Not every block is quiet though - I happened to be in the international students block (I'm home student) and it was the most peaceful block ever, it was brilliant. There are loud blocks like Matlock in Derby, but to be fair, you don't want Matlock unless you like corridor cricket lol

Derby's also one of a few halls that serve hot lunches, so that's good too. I've seen the cafe just the once (it was a bar when I was there, they converted it) and it was quite nice.

Derby is about 10min from Portland building, and about 5min from HuStu (biggest hall) and Cripps, and Cripps health centre is also nearby. Derby is also right next to a bus stop that goes into the city centre, 5min to the Sports Centre, and only about 10-15min to West Entrance and Broadgate Park - and if you walk another 15min or so, it's Beeston Centre where the big Sainsbury's is, so it's good for shopping too. I was doing Neuroscience so my lectures were in the QMC, which happened to be the furthest building in the entire campus, so I had to walk 20min, but that's literally the furthest away - and you're hardly gonna be going to the QMC.

Seriously, Derby Hall is a good location. Great view, and close to everything - and that's actually everything!

That looks like Matlock.

To the OP - Matlock rooms are the smallest that I know of in Derby Hall. It's not cramped, but it's small. My room in E block was about double the size of the room pics posted up there.

Yes the room pictures are from Matlock. Irising your room would now be a large single study. If your getting a normal single study you will probably be in Matlock. I loved the social aspect of it and corridor cricket it so much fun! Although be prepared for noise and exposed bricks!
