Your instructor will normally take you through the basics, but if you want to get started on theory and the basics there's a lot of help available online

You wont need to know your theory and stuff before your first lesson. Instructors understand that you may not know much on your first lesson.
But it might help just to have a flick through the highway code, so that you know the basics, so you can get a bit of a head start.

Honestly, you don't need to know anything. They're used to you turning up cold.

So all of you went in not knowing anything? How many hours did you have before your driving test? I'm really nervous but desperate to start driving

    No

Instructor will tell you how what works in the car. This will not require an actual drive as controls etc will be explained to you

It won't do any harm to grab a copy of the highway code and have a quick look through so you know the absolute basics. But your instructor will take you through it all. And it's fine to start learning before you do your theory.

Not many before I was ready for test, but carried on right up to the test date because it's a long wait, I'd get your theory booked as early as possible, so you can look to book your practical test ASAP.
