Just wondering how common it is for a landlord to offer reduced rent over the summer when none of us will be using the house.

Just kind of sucks to see about 2/3 of my salary for my summer internship disappear between my uni house and wherever I end up renting over the summer

Tbh I think it depends on the area, where I was I didn't hear of anyone paying reduced rent over summer, I certainly wasn't given that option at all. However in other areas it seems more common place.

where I was it seemed pretty standard providing no one was going to stay for more than a couple of days, usually half rent

My cousin tends to find a new house every year that way you don't need to pay for the months you're not using it but that's a bit risky if you can't find another house for September

Also assumes that contracts aren't 12 months. Where I was, even if you found a new house every year, with all contracts being 12 months (unless you'd taken over from someone else mid year) you still had to pay for every month, regardless of whether you were there or not.
