This might sound like a naive question but what do Headteachers actually do?
I remember all my Headteacher used to do was wonder the school corridors and give weekly assemblies. The obvious answer of course is that they 'run' the school, but what does that involve? And what powers do they have?

I've always thought it's more of a role where they are the point of contact between the school and the governors, and the school and parents as a whole. I like to think of them as the PR person... They're also there for disciplinary matters which go over and above the normal teacher's purview.
