I would say thats far too risky as you could be unlucky and there wouldnt be a question on what you wanted.

Id say its safer to revise it all, but with some bits in more detail if theres a topic youd like to answer on, e.g. migration and hope this comes up, but dont bank on it coming up!
But i suppose it would be fair enough to miss out one or two small topics you dont like, for example im not revising el nino as if there was a Q on this i wouldnt answer it, but i am revising the rest of climate etc.

So id revise more (even if its just breifly) to be on the safe side to be honest!
i would advise revising most topics as sometimes one of the questions is really nasty. and if you only revised say weather, and that question is very difficult then you have no back up

But weather ones are fairly straight forward normally.

Anticyclones haven't come up for a while. Biodiversity is a very current topic too.
For the Human I'd suggest Population / Demographic Transition and Globalisation winners and losers
For Cross-modular I'd look at Poverty, Sustainability and Millenium Goals

Our teacher says you can miss out small topics such as the ecocline, but revise all four topics thoroughly so you always have a "nice" question to answer, as you'll know your stuff. I hope the location of ecosystems comes up, and a really easy question on globalisation as I don't really get globalisation, but we haven't really covered population as much. If that made any sense to you at all
Hey everyone, hope the revisions going well. Has anyone got any past papers? If anyone has, could you possibly type out a few of the questions? I would be greatful forever, and obviously rep. I have no past papers except the mock we did at school. I could put up those questions if anyone wants them. I thought about only revising two of the four topics too, but decided it was too risky. The main problem I'm having at the moment, is that I don't have a decent book to revise from. I've got the heinemann revision guide for edexcel b, and its ok, but I really don't think its detailed enough. The AS one was great but the A2 one insn't so good. Anyone got any suggestions of other books that are good? Thanks.

I would suggest revising it all, just in case a tricky question came up on the one you had revised!!
And Marvi ive dug out all the questions i can find, most of them appear to be the nat environment or cross unit, cant seem to find my old pop and economy notes.

With the aid of an annotated diagram explain how the contrasting air masses which form a mid latitude depression lead to a rapidly changing sequence of weather. (15 marks)

Describe and explain the impact of extreme climates on people. (15 marks)

With the help of a labelled diagram explain how energy is transfered from thge equator to the poles. (10 marks)

With reference to examples, examine the environmental importance of one named global ecosystem. (15 marks)

Examine the role of ONE of the following types of organisation in ecosystem mannagement:
1) a private company (PLC or limited company) such as Exxon.
2)a public orgasnisation, such as English nature.
3) A campaigning pressure group, such as greenpeace.
(15 marks)

Examine the potential effects of global warming on ONE country. (15 marks)

For either the El Nina cycle or global warming, write a scientific report in which you offer explanations as to how it may be formed. (15 marks)

For one global ecosystem assess the extent to which it can be considered truly natural. (15 marks)

'Whilst there will be winners and losers, overall the world is right to be concerned about the environmental and economic consequences of global warming.' Discuss the statement with reference to named examples. (20 marks) (from 2002)

Evaluate some of the actions needed either globally or nationally to stabalise and reduce the ecological footprint. (16 marks) (2003)

With reference to one of the follosing: -atmosphere, -biosphere, -population, -economy; explain why progress towards an environmentally sustainable future is slow. (12 marks) (from 2004)

With reference to examples, examine the relationsip between a countries level of economic develepment and the size of its ecological footprint. (15 marks) (from 2006)

With reference to one named global ecosystem (biome) assess the extent to which human actions are threatining its biodiversity. (16 marks) (from 2002)

Examine the management problems caused by the variability of the weather in the British Isles. (13 marks) (2006)

Thats all the ones i have which dont ask for figure numbers...hope they help  Good luck
What's 'a mid latitude deoression'?

Near enough to hurricanes. But they cannot call them hurricanes, typhoons or willie-willies because they do not form between the tropics. They are just depressions that we get in the UK etc.
Thanks dans!
Reply 11
They are areas of low pressure which occur in the mid latitudes, as dans said we get them in the UK:smile: They are basically weather systems which bring cold, wet windy weather!
And i didnt mean deoressions, that was a typo :p:
And thanks for the rep

Willie-willies?:p: What are they in relation to weather & climate?:p:
Reply 13
Willie-Willies are what the Australians call Hurricane's. In the Indian Ocean they call them Typhoons and in the Atlantic they call them Hurricanes. In Oceania/Australiasia they are Willie-Willies.

chris 135...i've been thinking bout doing that, simply cos i dont hav enough time to revise al the topics due to other exams.
think im gonna revise both pop&ecomony for human side but for physical side im only gonna revise ecosystems, cos i just never got the hang of weather and climate, even tho its meant to be the 'more stright forward one':s-smilie: i know its not the ideal thing to do but i dont hav much choice!!:frown:

someone mentioned only revising one of the weather/climate, ecosystems and population/migration topics...but that wont work because you need them all or at least two for the last question in the paper that is going to be synoptic surely?

Well that's certainly true but as long as you plan your cross-modular answer carefully and ensure that you cover all 4 aspects somewhere along the line you should be able to cope. You can always focus more facts and figures on the areas you DO know about after all.

when you do use knowlage from other modules in the cross unit question do you need to say that or will the examiner pick up it?

What do you mean? like writing "i know this from the ecosystems unit"? I think thats a bit of a waste of time, the examiners arnt stupid, aslong as you know it and answer the question why does it matter...?
Reply 19
Yeh, do you have to make it blatantly obvious that you have used information from other units? Or will it be inferred just by the fact that you know it.
