I just received a decision from Student Finance (after sending them my passport and a hell of a lot bank statements) and I will be able to get £9k for my tuition however, no maintenance money at all.
Is this a rule introduced for the new tax year? When I was applying, last month, they allowed me to apply for the full amount, and a few weeks later I am not allowed to receive any maintenance money as I am an 'EU student.' Except for the fact that In have lived here for over ten years, and worked & paid tax for the past 5. So...? What the hell?
See, if the government warned EU students, we would have had the chance to work our arses off and save something. I am five months away from my first £1,700 accommodation instalment, and they're telling me now that I can't have any help at all towards my living costs. By the way, this is not based on my household income, purely because I have not got a British passport.
Is this a mistake they made on my case or is this an actual thing now? Like I said, I've lived here for over 10 years now... And if this is a thing, what other options are available to all the EU students that are unable to get support from their family/ partners?
I finally got through to them and - It was a glitch in the system?? So guys, if it happens to you make sure you call them to highlight the issue and confirm you'll be getting your money. PHEW
