Please see the question in the image.
    The question is:
    Paul is investigating photosynthesis.
He grows several samples of cress.
    (i) Paul uses the mass of cress as a measure of the rate of photosynthesis.

Why can the mass of cress be used as a measure of the rate of photosynthesis?

This question looks so wrong. I did research on measure the rate of photosynthesis. I don't see anywhere they weigh the plants to measure the rate of photosynthesis.

Please correct me if I am wrong
