Just need to rant!

OK, so far I've seen 3 Doctors and they all appear to have completely different ideas of what the "NHS Guidelines" are for tonsillectomy.
Opinion 1: 5 or 6 times in a year, or 3 very serious/recurrent/treatment-resistant cases.
Opinion 2: 6 times in 6 months.
Opinion 3: 5 or 6 times per year, for 7 consecutive years.

Now, I've trawled all over the Internet and looked at the official sites for the NHS, Bupa, NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) etc.. and they all seem to agree with opinion 1 - that 5 or 6 cases of Tonsillitis in a year is sufficient enough to warrant a Tonsillectomy.

So why do they all give such different versions of the "guidelines"? I'm just so fed up now :frown:

Go with the doctor that will refer you for a tonsillectomy... Or don't you want one? If they don't give you what you want, you have every right to see a different doctor.

Oh and when you go see the doc, take printouts of all the guidelines you found off official websites.

I had my ENT referral today, and she was the one who fobbed me off with opinion 3, and told me to continue with antibiotics and painkillers.... Even though antibiotics give me severe depression, but of course she didn't believe that at all.

Well, I had a tonsillectomy when I was about 8 or 9 and I had it fairly regularly, i'd say about once a month for a few years and the doctor was unsure even then, my mum had to push the issue.

I was ill all the time, it'd give me a headache, earache, make me sick all the time. Horrid stuff.

If you're getting it more than 5 times in a year it's too much and it's inconvenient.

I'm supposed to go back in December for another consultation, and I think I'll be spending the time until then arming myself with my reasons and evidence for needing it to be done!
It's just soooooo annoying though.... My only weakness appears to be to Tonsillitis, and even with a long history of it they're still making it difficult to get treatment

I had my tonsils out when i was like 6/7, i must of had infections several times a year from when i was little (not that i can remember). I don't remember if my mum had to push them into it though.
