    What does 'chai' mean in this context?

    Really?! It just doesn't make sense! Could it possibly have been a mistype? I just can't understand how it fits in to this context!

    or maybe he was referring to the caffeine content of tea and saying how the presence of the spider awakened him (?)

    in asia it's common to burn and torture spiders as it's seen as black magic, in this context the spider feared the person but after the person spilt hot tea on him the spider feared him

    Lol Chai is a term Africans i.e Nigerians use to express feelings of frustration, amazement, shock, regret etc. It's like shouting 'Oh my God' or like 'Gasp'. My friends use it too.
