No you don't need to study medicine, you can do a PhD in Neuroscience and go into research. But it's way too soon to be thinking about this. Focus on your GCSEs.

If you want to become a clinical neurologist (a doctor who manages patients with neurological disease), then you need a medical degree.

If you want work in neurology research, you don't really need any specific degree. A degree is neuroscience would be the most useful, but any biological/biomedical science is fine, or even computer science/maths as there is now a large research focus on computational neuroscience and neural network modelling.

Focus on your school subjects, and think about what aspect of neuroscience you want to become involved in.
