Megabus vs National Express

Anyone else find the punters who use Megabus are a bit....ahem, "rougher" than those who use National Express? No offence to anyone intended, I am a Megabus regular myself but find the journey from Aberdeen to London quite unpleasant sometimes. Especially when all the chavs get on from Glasgow. I know someone who got bottled in the face a few weeks ago...:frown:
I used National Express the other week to get from Newcastle to Edinburgh and it was a lot quieter and comfortable. Costs slightly more but would people say National Express was worth the extra money for a long trip of 13 hours? Im thinking of using National Express next time

anybody going on a bus for that length of time is crazy in my opinion... take the damned plane :/
Ive never liked the look of mega bus and as such when Ive needed to have always got national express coaches.
I only ever go London- Manchester though or vice versa and you can do that journey for as little as £2 return so price really isnt ever an issue for me.

For a little extra comfort/ peace of mind id pay a bit extra though

Behold, for I am a cheapskate. Yes I would love nothing better than booking a flight but I can't afford it for the number of trips I have to make. Its a hard-knock life :p:
coaches are so dirt cheap it doesn't make sense to use anything else, to get down to devon its gonna cost 30 quid return, by train it would cost 50+ i just can't see the point in even getting the train, albeit a bit quicker but oh well, i don't mind natinoal express, it depends on where you get it from cos as wtih all companies they have different coaches and some are better than others, equally some drivers are better than others, i have good experience with national express and paying a bit extra than megabus wouldn't bother me, although i've never really looked at megabus

I'm lucky, London - Cardiff is actually cheaper on the National Express than Megabus, so I use National Express. Look out for their Funfares. They're cheaper first come, first served single fares. You might be surprised.

I've Megabussed London to Brighton. It's OK, but that was only 50 miles.

I've gone for the National Express (Funfare) from Aberdeen to London on Sunday night, and a Megabus going back on Thursday night. Not really fussed about the 12 hour trip since it'll be overnight so hopefully quieter and I can read my book and have a kip

I've megabussed and nationalexpressed it from London to Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Darlington, Derby and back again...

I don't really have a preference. Well, slightly toward the ol' NX, but just because they're slightly more convenient usually.

Liverpool to London, Megabus all the way

7 quid, I can't complain! Took less time than National Express without all the stops as well, only complaint was some poor girl chundering all over a seat three rows ahead just getting past Watford Gap rest stop :frown:

Agree with you on this one, had an awful experience on National Express one time coming back from Heathrow and never going to do it again. Going to Heathrow in 2 weeks and it was only £15 more expensive to go first class on the train...no question.
I actually prefer Megabus...I've used both Megabus and National Express for London/Leeds and London/Brighton quite a lot, Megabus tends to be less busy and I'm less likely to end up seated next to a screaming child, or an old lady who falls asleep and dribbles on my shoulder.

Never even heard of megabus until I read this thread.
I've been on National Express to Manchester form Newcastle and vice versa a few times and always found it very good.

I just went from newcastle - london there and back in a day (14 hours, woah!) and it was actually pretty great! The bus was brand new, a/c and pretty comfy.... and about £120 cheaper than the train at the times i wanted to go!
I've never used Megabus - I DEFINITELY need to start taking coaches more often! Just a shame that Reading isn't accessible via National Express....

I've got a coachcard for them to, woo ^_^. Is that coack card usanble on Megabus, or is it National Express only?

No because they are run by two companies. National Express run National Express Coaches and Stagecoach run Megabus

Erm, National Express run to Reading. They run from the Train Station courtesy of the Railair coach to Heathrow Airport, from where you can connect for most services.

Else, they run from Calcot Sainsbury's Savacenter, just off the M4.

And just to enforce, the NX Coach Card, is for National Express services. Megabus is owned by Stagecoach, and in anycase Megabus fares don't tend to need discounting!
-.- Oh well....

National Express run National Express Coaches
Naaaarrrr! I SWEAR it was Starbucks that ran them!
i've been on mega bus and on national express . .and i prefer megabus

Where in London do they both take you to?

I'm bummed neither go from luton/luton airport. I need to get to Birmingham airport in a few weeks time. I'm gonna have to drive to MK then get the coach then get a plane. This trip is gonna be sooo much effort :frown:
