Probably.

I got a 7 in Spanish B SL and I was far from fluent.

Reply 2

IF you are French, then you won't be allowed to take French B

Reply 3

That is contentious, you can take a language B if you are from that country provided you haven't had a certain amount of schooling there, eg one of my friends is Japanese and she takes Japanese B SL.

Reply 4

lol if your fluent in french then it is fine, irrespective of whether you have other qualifications in that language or not (i believe prior qualifications only matters for ab initio languages) as otherwise the system would be impossible to police.

Reply 5

I would in that case take French B HL to get an extra HL. It's not that much harder.

Reply 6

I guess it just depends on the schools to police that rule. My school polices it but another school in Singapore doesn't. ACS Singapore lets Chinese students fluent in Mandarin take Mandarin B.

Reply 7

i live in spain and did Spanish B HL, if your doing SL i'm sure you will have no trouble in getting a 7!!! (my spanish is half fluent and i'm expecting at least a 6 if not a 7)

Reply 8

I'm not French. My school doesn't offer French B HL. Actually if my school had the options I wanted I would have done French A2 SL, probably, but oh well.

Reply 9

If you're fluent in French and confident enough to take it at the A2 level, you would have no problems with it at the B level. It'll seriously be a joke to you xD.

Reply 10

I speak english, danish and spanish fluently, and instead of doing spanish ab initio (only foreign language available at my IB school) I did danish A1 self-taught. Seriously people like you shouldn't be allowed to do such courses.

Ultimately, a qualification is only as good as an employer makes it out to be. If you have a dumbed down qualification (taking an exam for intermediate learners when you are fluent) you will get no credit. In fact you will probably be laughed at. Although certain people like to find the easiest route to the diploma I can assure you it is much better to keep your head down and work.

Reply 12

Like I said, I would take French A2 if it were offered at my school. It isn't. French B SL and Spanish B SL are the only language courses offered. "Or", as the French would say, I haven't done enough Spanish for my school to put me in Spanish B SL, and the IB diploma requires a language. I'm not doing this to get out of anything. I guess I could self-study French A2, but that seems significantly more difficult than taking a class and I'm worried about being overcharged with work.

EDIT: I'm not even sure if you can self-study for an A2...

i live in Canada and as most ppl know english and french are the 2 languages your suposed to know. i live in ontario where its all english and my school doesnt offer HL french so i had to take SL french even though i grew up in montreal which is all french. so like you i am fluent in french n i just wrote the SL french. It was really easy because obviously you are going to understand everything that they are asking you to do. however you must also be good at wrting it because you have to write like stories or journal entries. The only part of the course where you use your language skills is during the oral presentation, u know the one that is 15 min. but yeh you should be fine and get a seven

Reply 14

Haha so it's you people who keeps raising the grade boundaries ...

Reply 15

This is the reason the better unis stipulate HL grades in their conditions....

Still, I would think it would be far more unfair if these people avoided say a science at higher level by taking French B HL.

Reply 17

hey i ve taken french B HL and yeah a 7 is easy i think

Reply 18

I'm not planning on going to an American university, nor am I planning on studying French. I'm planning on studying either history or math (haven't decided yet), and have both History and Math at HL. So no big deal...
