How easy is it to change courses once at University?

I'm planning on going to Warwick and applied for English but am having serious doubts now and am more keen on the idea of doing History.

I wondered if this was a common experience for people to change courses once they get to University or whether you have to start the application process again.

Is it possible to simply change over as long as you get the right grades to do the course?

Help would be mucho appreciated !

You can change quite easily when you get there as I did after my first year, its just a matter of finding out if your chosen course will accept you then filling in a few forms and notifying your LEA, and thats it basically

If you start your course and decide quickly enough that you dont want to carry on (ie in the first month or so) then you can change courses quite early on- you may need to catch up with the work you missed, but at least then it wont mean having to repeat a year or go back the year after

Do you do history thisbemadness? I only ask because I thought that it was one of the most competitive and over-subscribed courses in the country, and therefore might not be so easy to transfer into?

It depends whether there are any places left for history. If there are, and if your grades are good enough for both courses, you should be able to switch. If you're sure you want to, you could ask now instead of when you get there. The worst they can say is no, in which case they can't take away your English offer and you can still try again in September.

Your grades look easily good enough to do history, but if they have turned down lots of equally good applicants this year, they may see it as a bit of a sneaky way to get on to a popular course. Best to be upfront with them I would say.

True, but English is also a very popular course.

I'd e-mail admissions now and ask them if you're sure - that way if there's a space, you're more likely to get it than any clearing applicant.
