I haven't yet confirmed my choices and ranked them with a firm and insurance choice etc, do I do student finance before that or rank them first?

Probably better to rank your choices first though to save the hassle of changing it later - you don't want any reason not to get your student loan in time.

At this stage, the priority is getting your SF application in. It doesn't matter which uni/course you put on the application now. Once you accept an offer after results day, you just go back into your application and change your uni/course details if you need to. Thousands of prospective students will be doing the same thing - it's perfectly normal and something the system is designed to deal with.
