I have a mock literature paper tomorrow morning and am desperate to know if I need to refer to the reader, along with the context in the Of Mice and Men section.

    Many thanks

    Hi Wellsy2000,

It is good to refer to the context (if u mean the background of the prose piece such as the social background during the 1900s in America) when needed in some parts of your Literature essay. However, referring TOO MUCH to it isn't good.

Referring to the reader is the same. It is good to refer to the reader as part of analysis, but do it only when you deem it being necessary and can expand on why you think a reader would feel a specific way.
