Oestrogen prepares the uterus for pregnancy by causing the lining of the uterus to grow and be ready to receive a fertilised egg. So why would you give oestrogen for contraception?

It inhibits FSH production i believe so it stops the eggs maturing.

If it is taken as a contraceptive everyday it mimics being pregnant because the levels of oestrogen are constantly higher so it stops eggs being produced

Thank you that's a good way of looking at it. So just to confirm during pregnancy both oestrogen and progesterone are high?
