Not many places offer just the English A level ?? Why? Most of the time it is English literature and language or just literature by itself

Good point actually. I never realised. When I did my A levels my school only offered English lang & lit or English lit. I ended up choosing lang & lit, I think I would've preferred to do just language because I was better at it. Have you checked local sixth forms and colleges to see if they offer it alone?

Hmm, my sixth form offered both English Language and English Literature as separate A Levels, not as a combined course. I've never really thought about that before :dontknow:

i know literature is more highly regarded but I don't really think that could just be the answer. Lots of softer subjects are taught at most sixth forms like sociology etc so that doesn't explain it

isn't english language a relatively new-ish course? sociology and psychology, even though they are soft, are older and probably more popular as well
