    Hi,

    I'm a bit confused about how to write oxidation and reduction half equations for this reaction.

    NH3 + NO2 - N2+H2O
    - =arrow
    I'm not sure how to go about it as there are 2 nitrogen containing compounds on the reactant side.

    Thanks

    Start with these two equations and balance them with electrons, hydrogen ions and water.

    NH3 --> N2

    NO2 --> N2

    Spoiler:
    Show
    2NH3 --> N2 + 6H+ + 6e
    2NO2 + 8H+ + 8e --> N2 + 4H2O
