In terms of academic reputation and which university may lead to a better career, is there a significant difference in the quality of the degree of general engineering at Durham and Mechanical engineering at Bristol? Given that I have visited both and have my own views about the loacations, whcih university would you say is better between the two for engineering, and say for example if I were to go into finance after the engineering degree, would one of the two universities be better suited for this?
I have concern that although the Engineering degrees at both rank very similar on the league tables, Bristol's overall national rating is much lower than Durham's on the large majority of league tables

Pick the course and uni you prefer. The general rankings are irrelevant, and for engineering they are both leading universities.

AFAIK they have similar opportunities for IB. Tagging Princepieman for best advice on that...

Fundamentally, IB/finance employers (or any, for that matter) look for good people not "good" universities.

    Yeah, similar prospects for IB.
