hi, im anEU student who got rejected by his first choice universities. I only have oneoffer, which is from a uni I don't really want to go to. I got rejected by theothers on the basis of a poor personal statement so I would like to try againand do a gap year and reapply on october. however if i don't get good a2results then it is not worth reapplying. therefore, i would like to know if itwere possible to firm my offer and then on results day, depending on my grades, decide to decline my place and do a gap year . Would i still be charged bystudent finance or the university (e.j accomodation)?

You would not be charged by Student Finance, since they only pay once you have registered with the university, ie you're registering with the university when you get your student card.

In terms of accommodation, you'll likely to be liable to pay if you weren't rejected by the university but you rejected them. I think my university and unite (private accommodation) only let you get you out of the accommodation contract when you didn't get in because the university rejected you on results day. However, this should be mentioned in the accommodation contract, therefore, read the terms and conditions CAREFULLY before signing anything.

Hope this helps. (I'm also a EU student)

You're allowed to decline your place on results day, and you won't have any issues with student finance if you never enroll.

If you have already paid accommodation deposits etc, these won't be refunded, but you won't usually pay any additional charges if they are university owned halls. Private halls may charge you for the first term or even the whole year, so check carefully before signing any contracts!
