From 1945 to 2011, violent deaths from war fell dramatically, but Syria in particular put a dent in this progress. Now, due to the ceasefire in Syria and other developments in 2016, this brief escalation of war may be abating. Ceasefire in Syria, ceasefire in Ukraine, elections in the Central African Republic, peace talks in Yemen due to occur.

Overall, humans are happier, healthier, less violent, less cruel and more peaceful (towards each other, though not to other animals) than they've ever been. You're less likely to die a violent death of any kind than in any other period in human history. If we had to pick an era in which to be born, we'd pick now, despite all of the headlines.

For sure, but we must not rest on our laurels. We must continue to strive for more.

It's quite surreal tbh. Doesn't feel that way.

I couldn't find it in the article. Do they provide an actual source which keeps track of war deaths around the world.

What a time to be alive.

Facilitated by Western dominance and the end of history.

The West are the biggest warmongers on Earth. USA would be invading Russia right now if it wasn't for nukes.
