Should I go out before my exam?

(Posted as anonymous because I feel embarrassed about having to ask this)

My A-levels start on Monday. I've been getting As at school and I'm predicted As, and I've been revising relatively hard for the last four weeks; however I am a complete worrier and I always worry I haven't done enough work. I never feel as if I'm ready for any exam but I would like to get 4 As. I've been invited to a party this Saturday evening. I wouldn't drink or anything and I would come home early-ish, but it is the evening before the day before my exam. I'll feel bad if I don't go, and bad if I do go. So should I go?

Yeah, I totally would - you have all of Sunday to recover right? Plus, it'll be good to get out of the house for a bit, if you've been studying so hard!

I wouldn't. You have plenty of time to party after exams, and you'd feel much better partying once all exams are out of the way.

It's up to you though, I don't know how far you are with revision etc.

Edit: I kinda read it wrong and thought it was the night before your exam. Changes things a little. Don't think it matters if you go or not.

why the hell not? I went out the night before some of my A-Levels...

I don't see any reason not to go. It's not as if you need to revise all day Saturday and all evening as well. If you're worried about revision then just make sure you get some done during the day. That way you can have a guilt free night of partying. Also there is such thing as over working, especially at the last minute. You do need to have breaks to allow your brain to absorb information as well.

Wow, quick replies, thanks very much!

Thanks for all your opinions - I know it's a bit irrational, but I always think that the extra hour of revision could make the difference between one grade and another...stupid, I know.

It's not stupid :p: I worry about the same thing.
You deserve to enjoy yourself if you've revised so hard, and if you're genuinely worrying that much you have Sunday to revise.

Its not like your gonna revise during that time is it? I know what you mean though because I worry alot.

Thanks Lauren  Hmm...I hope so - I mean, I haven't revised every moment of the day for the last four weeks, but no one has...right?

I guess I just don't know what's a reasonable amount of revision to have done.

Hey I've got an exam at 9am and I'm still pissing about online and glancing over my notes. It's not a good way to do things, but I've always done well in exams so far so I'm not too worried. I'm sure you'll be fine, you sound ultra prepared. I didn't revise for A levels except for during the 24 hours before each exam and I got decent enough marks.

Argh, I really hope so! I never feel ready for exams though :frown:

Don't worry OP, you sound like you've done more than enough revision! More than most people anyway, so try not to despair

Good luck for your exam by the way!

Just go and have a good time. Will be good to relax and not be so uptight about exams.

Yeah don't stress. My way of thinking is this - If I were at home, would I be revising right now? On a saturday evening (I should hope) the answer is no. So even if you do go out then you haven't lost out on revision time. Plus revision 2 days before an exam isn't going to be the best now is it.

Revise a bit more (not too much maybe half an hour a day - wake up slightly earlier) than you were planning to for the rest of the week and work quite hard on saturday morning then you wont feel so guilty when you go to the party. Its good to unwind so you're not too stressed come monday (my first exam as well!!! AHH!!!)

Definitely go- you need time to relax as well or you'll go insane. You deserve some fun after all the hard work you've been doing.

If it were me personally I'd choose not to go. If you're a worrier like me, I'd think to myself: "I really ought to push my boundaries and reduce how much I worry because it's really, really stupid how much pressure I put on myself" and then I'd come to the conclusion that NOW a few days before the exam is no time to undergo trying to change your psyche. So don't go, stay in and revise. Seriously. You'll feel better before the exam.

the real thing you must think about is:

"It's not the hours you put in your work that counts, it's the work you put in the hours.”

Up to you. I can't see a few hours' break doing too much harm.
