I know I went over the word limit for my French AS exam essay..

don't write your word count lower than it is, my teacher told us not to do this as a former pupil did get penalized for it.

for gcse, if you go over the word limit (way over), do they stop marking at the word limit even if there are some bullet points after it??

Nope, instead they read all of what you've written, but go back and become really picky about grammar. It's because they assume if you've gone that far over the word limit, then you didn't have a great deal of structure to your piece and just wrote anything you ever knew about the language down, in an attempt to gain marks. :p:

but i didnt just write everything i knew about the language. everything i wrote was relevent to the bullet points but i just went into a lot of detail.. and writing is my strongest point in languages i hope they dont penalise me :frown:

Although the system does balance out, because the people who write down everything they know are unlikely to be that grammatically accurate- and that is what they're trying to penalise. If you write a lot, but it's all accurate, you're more likely to have just written more because you have a lot to say, and you're capable of expressing yourself in a controlled way. If writing's your strongest skill then you should have no problems with the grammar fine tooth combing.
