Hiya can someone tell me whether or not a should apply for a maintenance grant because I have applied for a loan and it has been accepted and I'm not sure if I should or is it too late. Besides what's really the difference?

There's no grant for new students from England.

Loan = you pay back once you're earning over £21k per year
Grant = you don't pay back

Are you resident in England, Wales, Scotland or NI?

Are you starting university this year or continuing?

The situation varies depending on the above.

Maintenance grants aren't available for SFE applications for new students.

You might be eligible for bursaries or scholarships from your university but you'll have to ask them directly to find out what you're entitled to.

On your SF application, make sure that you check the box which allows SF to share your financial information with unis. That will mean that your uni will automatically assess you for non-repayable scholarships or bursaries which are based on household income.

Of course if you're not from a low income household, then you won't qualify for this funding.
