How can I find out how many students applied for physics at a specific university?

I think it's up to the universities whether to publish this information. Cambridge, I think, has statistics on it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much since it's not a very useful stat to begin with. The answer is probably that the number of applicants for each course is very high, but there's no easy way to deduce from that what your individual chances are.

This wont quite give you what you want but may be more useful. If you search for physics courses it tells you what percentage of applicants get offers. Its quite interesting eg. 97% of physics applicants at Warwick get an offer. Dont think they are scrutinising those personal statements in any detail.... At the other end, you can see how few people get offers from Durham, Imperial.
