So, I'm on a two year Engineering extended diploma in Engineering and today we were told that there would be the possibility of instead of doing the second year, doing a foundation year as in an extended degree. Does anyone here have any knowledge of extended degrees/foundation years? Also, I would be 19 by the time it starts so does that mean I would have to pay?

    Thanks.

Foundation years can usually be funded as your +1 year for student finance, so funding shouldn't be a problem. You'd usually have to pay for a foundation year in this way regardless of age.

I haven't done a foundation year myself, but a lot of people find them a great bridge between level 3 and uni level. However, many people who do a foundation year go on to study their full degree at the uni they did their foundation year at. If you wanted to go elsewhere, a foundation year might limit your options more than a standardized national qualification.
