Hey,

It's true that there are a lot of LGB students at MMU but hardly any of them come to the LGBT events.

There's a profile for the LGBT on MySpace if you're interested:

How are you supposed to make friends with other gay people?
I go to MMU and have a few friends who are gay.
They have a society that you can join at the freshers fair and I think you can go and see them at the union.

The nights are supposed to be really good. I think they meet up from time to time in the village (canal st.) which isnt far and sometimes they organise big nights out to places out of manc with mini buses.

What's wrong with making friends with straight people? Are you a hetrophobe?

No absolutley not but I think i'd like to meet some other gay people during my time at University.

I read somewhere that Manchester Met is the best place to be a gay student. Is that not the case then? Would I find it hard to find friends to go down Canal Street with?

Here's the article http://education.guardian.co.uk/students/news/story/0,12891,1545717,00.html

Is it misleading then?

why do you think it's misleading? who's said this? let's look at the facts - it's in machester, northern gay capital. why wouldn't it have a great gay scene?
apparantly the mmu lgbt society is very good..they arrange talks on a regular basis. the man uni lgbt society, i'm sorry to say, seems to organise events that are more pub crawl orientated on average, which personally doesn't really appeal to me (no offense man uni lol). so yeah, by joining the society you will deffo meet other gays. if the sociaety isn't your thing why not put up a sign in your hall asking if anyone wants to introduce themselves..tis random but effective lol! Good luck, coz it is hard to meet gay people sometimes and i totally understand why it can be comforting to have friends woth a similar sexual orientation to yourself

You don't need to know gay people to go to canal street! you meet gay people there! and MMU does have the most gay people -so I've heard. It even turns you gay if you're not -it's that gay :p:
