Unfortunately that's not how uni works, is it? If you decided to study a course where your whole degree hangs on your final mark then you can't really complain later when it back fires. Exams rarely reflect what people are capable of, that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

You've taken that paragraph out of context. It is not unusual for universities to elevate a student's classification on the basis of exceptional circumstances.

Yes, but not if the student didn't point out those exceptional circumstances beforehand. If you're not granted some sort of medical certificate for the exam, you're 'well' by definition, even if you're actually not. If IzzyWizzy couldn't get a medical certificate before her exams, her chances of getting one afterwards are slim, unfortunately. Being kept awake by noise can of course affect someone's performance as well, but unless it's noise from a university building site, it's not the university's responsibility, so if there's no medical certificate saying she was suffering from chronic insomnia, they're unlikely to take it into account. I'd say if IzzyWizzy wants to appeal against her grade, her best bet will probably be to try and follow up her earlier complaint about that unhelpful dissertation supervisor, but on the other points she's unlikely to be successful...:dontknow:
I have to agree with puppy concerning exam regulations, though: you do know what they are in advance, so if your final grade is only determined by the exams at the end, 'clearly' having been a good student throughout your course unfortunately won't help you at all. Perhaps the exam result doesn't reflect your true abilities, but that's the way it works - if you don't like the idea of final exams determining your grade, your only real alternative is to choose a course which has different exam regulations and is more coursework-based.

Well said.

Amazingly the 1970's made it possible to achieve a Fourth Class - Vintage!

My mate got a 2.2 and then got onto a grad scheme with a multinational insurer literally a month after graduation. A 2.2 will shut off a lot of avenues, but if you're determined, you'll find a way to secure a decent grad job
