I am doing the m1 paper from June 2010 and there is a question in which two masses are attached by a inextensible string over a smooth pulley. they are accelerating and then the string is cut. B is moving upwards but what I dont get is that after the string is cut will B continue to move upwards until is is at its instantaneous point of rest? The mark scheme does not consider this and I am wondering why B wont travel upwards till it instantaneoulsy comes to rest before moiving back downwards again?

it sounds as if B will continue upwards under the influence of gravity before descending. we need to see the question really ?
