    Hi
My GFs brother is going to court for doing over a coffee shop. He has considered a career in teaching and also works with the scouts.
He is currently at uni and is also concerned he will be expelled and miss exams if he is sent down.

If he is convicted (he will plead guilty to stealing a coffee cup) and gets a criminal record will that bar him from working with miners? I thunk it would be unfair as it was only theft.

I would appreciate any advice as my GF is terrified of what might happen she keeps nagging me to find out and she has enlisted me as her miss Marple.

Luckily you can still work with miners. Most companies don't usually care about your criminal history so I think you should probably try looking at coal mining jobs for your girlfriends brother

Lol I think OP meant "minors".
Wrong spelling can really confuse things!

    Hi

Minor convictions such as these are almost always not considered serious enough to deem a person unsuitable for teaching. He probably has no need to worry about it affecting his chances of becoming a teacher. Of course, any convictions that includes violence against the person are taken very much more seriously, but still the circumstances and history of the offense would be the issue.

To be honest, with the amount of people applying for each job at the moment, any kind of criminal conviction when looking to work with children will reflect badly on him, but whether it's an issue enough for him not to get a job idk, that would depend on the employer I suppose.

Also. Theft is theft. He should have thought about that before he did it. Not the kind of role model I'd want to be influencing my children..

The mining industry certainly isn't what it used to be.

he'd had to have a DBS check for any work with vulnerable people and any convictions would show up, I think it is then at the discretion of the employer but to be honest I doubt many employers would want to hire someone with a criminal record to work with kids... perhaps if he could demonstrate he had changed and reformed down the line but certainly not any time soon

also, I wouldn't want someone convicted of theft working with vulnerable people, it's not a sign of a responsible or moral person, of someone who will follow rules they are given and they're certainly not a good role model

I think for stealing a coffee cup he'll get a caution. But have to wear a canary when with the miners?

He won't be banned from the profession, but I would imagine job hunting would be difficult just like a porn star trying to be a teacher.

A written caution still goes on your criminal record. But granted it is not as bad as a conviction!

What the hell has a criminal conviction got to do with working with miners? Are they afraid he is gonna nick a lump of coal.
