I live in Reading and I'd consider going there if I didn't live in Reading. The night life is pretty immense- the music scene is big and there are a lot of decent pubs and clubs around. The uni campus is really nice and the area it's in (my area ) is a great place to live if you eventually decide to move out of halls etc after your first year or so. Lots of shops nearby and the town centre is great for shopping, food, cinema and all that jazz.

If it's not important, why bring it up?

Southampton has a better academic reputation plus it has got slightly better nightlife, better shops and having spent time in both places I felt a bit safer in Soton as well, Reading seemed to have a bit of an edge to it.
I'm at Reading and I've had a fantastic first year, I couldn't recommend it enough. It has what you need as a student and a beautiful campus. I did modules in English and the department was good and really friendly.

Not too many Londoners but quite a few. There are many more Southerners in general than Northerners though.

EDIT: Reading is twinned with a town in Malaysia thats why there are "lots of chinese people". I don't understand why that was mentioned, I've found it quite diverse in different ethnicities.

Seriously, OP, go to Open Days at both. Go here: http://www.soton.ac.uk/study/visitsopendays/ug_open_days.html to book in for the open days at Southampton this summer.

Just saying it to point out some of the diversity of the place. The main ethnic groups. There are alot of polish as well in Reading.

It means different things to different people but it is worth mentioning.

That's an over-generalisation. There is a mixture of different ethnic backgrounds.

The two campuses (Bulmershe and Whiteknights) are fab, but they're both different, meaning that they provide a welcoming balance if you spend a large amount of time on just one.

The area is very welcoming to students, and there are loads of really good clubs where well-known bands and artists play, for example the Klaxons.

I haven't met many people from London, but I have met a lot of people from Kent. Also, Reading is only a 30-minute train journey from London which is very handy if you want to go on a night out in a different place.
