If you connected a wire from the +ve plate to the -ve plate, and measured the total amount of charge that flowed until it stopped, you would find it to be 5 C. That's because once 5 C of electrons have moved from the -ve plate to the +ve plate, then both plates are neutral, and there's no more energy difference (i.e. voltage) between the two.

So 5 C of charge is stored, as that is the maximum that you could transfer through a wire connected to the capacitor.
