Sunburn

I sat outside in the sun for a while yesterday. I did have suncream on, and I did apply it throughout the day but i'm quite badly burnt. I'm bright red on my arms and chest, it's also quite painful. I'm starting to get the shivers while being incredibly warm, it's rather horrible!

I've been applying after sun, but it's sort of done and I find moisturiser hard to use because my skin is so sensitive. Anyone got any advice on what to do? Apart from being more careful next time :p: I'll nip out later on to get some after sun but i've got to wait in for something being delivered, something to help relieve the pain would be rather nice!

Thank you!
this is going to sound like a hellish solution but it works...... i got sunburnt when i went to australia visiting family and everyone i met said to have a hot shower, get the shower as hot as you can stand it ..... it takes the sting and heat out of it and makes it go alot quicker....it worked for me
otherwise anything with aloe vera is good to!
good luck xx
aloe vera is really good

Oh god that sounds painful! I'm going for a shower later on anyway, and I like my showers hot so it would have happened anyway I suppose. I never thought something like that would help though.

Yeah, i've been looking around for after sun and they do stuff with aloe vera and stuff, considered nipping in and getting a bottle of that! I'll have a nose around and see if there is anything in the house to use. I've just got terribly sensitive skin, it's a bit of a nightmare really.

Thanks.

yup that works for me as well, it will make it more red for about an hour after but it will fade.

When you get the after-sun apply it every half hour or so, until it stops being absorbed!! As a red-head I feel your pain with sunburn:p:

Hope it goes away

I'll go give that a shot then. A hot shower sounds really, really painful though lol but it has to be done.

Aww yeah, i'm rubbish in the sun! I burn so easily and i'm at a disadvantage because I don't feel the heat lol i'm always freezing so half the time I don't realise that i'm burning. I did think I was being sensible though, obviously not as sensible as I thought :p:

It's time to wage war on the sun.

I too am now burned.

Just to add a couple more tips:
Do NOT take a cold shower. This generally sends the burn into shock and can make things worse.
When burning, try to burn evenly so that you do not look incredibly strange.
Melons are very good to help reduce the effects of a sunburn.

Far too late for that lol i'm rather patchy :p: I have one red arm, a red chest and a nice brown looking arm. Oh dear!

Oh cool, i'll look out for that. I'll just need to see what they've got in store.

I did have a lovely long warm shower. I no longer feel on fire! I also don't have that horrible prickly feeling on my skin.
ouchie, geez I hate sunburn.
The best thing is aloe vera cream...not sure if you have it there though...

Creams are never recommended for burns!!!

Instead you should use gel based formula like after-sun which contains aloe vera. As someone already said, never take a cold shower as it could go into shock very easily.

Sun burn is an absolout *****. Got it bad on my next at Reading Festival last year. Thankfully managed to find a nice girl willing to rub aftersun on my back  mmmm, attractive...
everytime i even suspect i have been burnt (you can usually tell before you go bright red) i try to have a bath and stay in it for 30 - 45mins. Seems to work. My shoulders/back were a bit red yesterday but this morning have gone a nice brown.

I felt fine when I was outside, and felt okay when I came in. I was cold and put a jumper on, okay I felt warm but I didn't think much of it until I took my jumper off and realised I was bright red. It didn't bother me in the slightest at the time, if it did I would have done something sooner.

Like I said, I went for a nice warm bath, stayed in there for around 40 minutes and the prickly feeling is gone. It feels ten times better now i've done that. Your lucky you go brown, I just stay red for months on end lol one of my arms look brown so i'm looking fairly odd at the moment. I hope it evens out a wee bit but knowing my luck, i'll be red, white and brown all summer :p:

I shall go out and buy some stuff with aloe vera. Thank you very much for your replies!
