    Hi guys,

I'm here hoping to get some advise for my little one. Since I'm kinda out of touch.

So, he is 22 years old and for reasons I'd rather not get into, has decided not to go to Uni. Instead, he has signed up to QA Apprenticeships and was assigned to a client. The client downsized and as a result, was let go.

Now, he's been assigned to another client - a high street pharmacy. And he has complained all he has been doing is scanning the inventory into a database.

All in all, he hasn't gained valuable IT experience. He is self studying, but prefer he learns on the job.

Question: what other options are there for an IT driven individual, who does not have a degree and would like to pursue a career in software/web development? Any means of getting valuable work experience?

All response will be greatly appreciated.

If he's self teaching himself a language he should also be creating some side projects to practise and demonstrate what he's learnt, throwing them up on GitHub. Try writing a blog too.

Once he's got something to show off create a LinkedIn account, fill in the profile as fully as possible and connect with some recruiters.

    Cheers for this.

Yes, thats the current plan. Just want an additional means, in-case he's not able to do all that. Life can get in the way etc.

    Some sort of plan B.

    Hope that sheds more light.

    Thanks
