2/3 years ago I stumbled on a website that appeared to show photos of underage school children up their skirts and posing sexually. I copied the website link and reported it to like some anti child-pornography website, and also emailed the website to make them aware of the content, and asking them to take it down. Some time later they emailed me back saying "the girls are clearly overage" - however just now (fast forward 3 years) I wondered if it was still on the website, I was intrigued to see if my reporting got it taken down, or should I report it again. I couldn't find it on their website, and I searched the term "underage" to attempt to locate it... Now here is where I got scared.

It said because I searched "underage" it logged my IP address, date/time of the search. Have I broken the law? Are the police gonna turn up at my house and arrest me and call me a sex offender? I honestly was just intrigued to see if it was still there, I was disgusted when I first saw it a few years ago, it's making me feel anxious, have I broken the law or not? I was just trying to report a dodgy website 😟

    No, you haven't.

A stupid search to make, though. If you'd found images, going 'I was only looking to be able to report them' wouldn't have been a defence if they'd been found on your computer.

    your going to prison

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It sounds like one of those virus sites which claim the police are going to come knocking on your door unless you pay x amount.
Or it could have been set up by someone wanting to catch out and scare actual offenders.
You're a bit of a tit for searching for that term though, assuming you are in fact telling the truth about this. Not judging, just saying.

Anyway, avoid these websites like the plague and don't get involved in any way. There's people out there who's job it is to find this sort of content, not yours.
