I was looking at entry requirements for the mathematics course at Sheffield Hallam. I was wondering why entry requirements are much lower for 2017 than for 2016?

    Hi HJ2,

life.of.pablo is correct. The UCAS tariff point system is changing for 2017 entry, so all the entry requirements look a little different to people who are used to seeing the old system.

Have a look on UCAS for more information about how the new tariff points system will work.

More students = more £££. Just view it as a change in marketing strategy; they must be going for a new niche.

    Hi,

Just to confirm, the new UCAS tariff point system applies across all universities, not just Hallam. It does not mean that university's are now accepting a lower level of tariff i.e. lower grades, although we know this may be confusing. It simply means that UCAS have changed their number system.

So for example, a student who received an A* in one A-level for 2016 entry will have received 140 points for that subject. A student who received an A* in one A-level for 2017 entry will receive 56 points. The tariff number is different, but the level of grade is the same. Both achieved the same A*.

We hope that clears things up a little more. Please do refer to the new tariff system that Hannah has linked to in her post above.

    Thanks,
    Laura
