depends on the situation, if something happens that means you couldn't even try they might give you special consideration. you need a doctors note though, and then your exams officer sends it off and the exam board consider it. generally its more acceptable if the person at least attempts the exam - as my exams officer pointed out, some people do exams in hospital even :s-smilie:

best get a doctors note...under certain cases they will send off your mock paper HOWEVER...they may not 100% give u the same mark...they will take it into consideration and see...

I heard that a few years ago, there was a girl at our school who had to miss exams cause she was really ill, but they used her mock results as her real one so she got an A for her history (heard from history teacher)

Pretty good going I think.

If you are just slightly ill (like before my english exam when I was up all night with stomach upset) then its just tough luck. I felt very ill, but I had to do the exam. I think if you were like hospitalised sort of ill though my teachers told me they use your mock or if you have already done one of the papers, they may just assume you got a similar mark in the next paper.

If they miss the exam due to illnesses they must send a doctor's note, otherwise you just flunk the exam. Although it has to be serious like an asthma attack, not like a cold or a cough which would be sorted out with some medicine.

That's about it, they would just send your books, your mock paper and marks for the examiners expert consideration.

Er...I wouldn't really say asthma was serious enough to get you out of an exam...

I think what happens is if you get a doctor's note, you can ask your school to write a letter to the exam board explaining this (Maybe you do it, not sure) with the note, and they'll consider giving you your mock grade.

What we were told happens for our maths exam is for the paper you missed, they take the results for that paper of the person who got the closest mark to you in the mocks, and give that as your result. Which isn't really that good, seeing as that person could have had a bad day. I think they should just take your mock result and make sure that it was a feasible result (like say you got 60% on paper one, but in your mock you got 95%, they'd be suspicious).

its all based on a couple of different things.
firstly how sick you are,if you truely were unable to come to the exam.
secondly how good of a student you are and how your school thinks of you as a student.
and thirdly coursework grades previous mock grades and class tests even i think.

it pretty much depends on how much your school likes you =p

If you get a doctor's note and give it in the next day you attend, you should still be eligable for a mark. Your GP has a better idea than the exam board of your personal condition, and so the exam board will take this into acount.

Teachers send off grades which they expect you will get in the exam, this is based on mock grade/coursework etc. and the exam board may request these although I would imagine coursework would be favoured because some people (such as myself) view the mocks as a chance to gauge what I really need to revise on and what is still in my head firmly from the lessons.

But doing the exam with the above looks better, because it shows you are determind to do the exam (unless you are unconsious in which case it would be impossible).

If you didn't do the exam at all and you had a doctor's note, you'd probably get a grade based on any real exams you'd already taken, your coursework if you did it, your mock grade, your predicted grade and possibly how the rest of your class did. But if you sit the exam, you might still be able to get special consideration with a doctor's note.

We had a Ski-trip in Febuary where one of my mates dislocated his shoulder and is yet to have recovered. He has actually been told that he would have to re-do the whole of year 11. Harsh I know but he would of rather spent 4 months just sitting in lessons or learn to write with his left hand.

that is rediclious, i've never heard that...if you break a bone etc. and cant wirte no more...u sit ur exam in a sperate room with either a vigulator or another teacher who does the writing for you.

there are gd sides to this...if ur gd pals with the teacher, then he/she may slip u a few marks...but im not sure if its jus the two of u, i rekon there is another person in thr aswell :frown:

Well I was sort of wondering something yesterday along the same lines, yesterday in the English exam, my mate had an Asthma attack and apparently his lung collapsed :frown: We were about half way through the paper? Will they use what hes done, or simply ignore that and use the mock results etc?

A girl in my year has currently got chicken pox. She stayed at home on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but she came in on Thursday.

I thought they were going to use her mock marks. But apparently, they don't. They're going to look at 3 people in the year who are at the same level as her, and she will get the average of their marks on the exams.

Now I don't think that's fair. What's up with that?

She's mostly As, a few A*s and a few Bs.

Either way, it's not fair. If these people get a higher mark than she deserves, it's not fair on anyone. If these people get a lower mark than she deserves, it's not fair on her. Either way, she has not done the exam, and she shouldn't get a mark from it.

I don't understand why they won't just use her mock!
