With bread? How is that meant to work? Just stick one tablet in your mouth, then drink a little bit of water (or juice) and swallow. If you think too hard about it you'll just freak out and not let yourself swallow them. Theres no physical reason why you can't swallow them, its purely psychological.

oh my mum told me the bread thing she said if you chew it and put the tablet inside before you swallow it helps (she got this from a friend)

practise, with something like tic tacs.
try filling your mouth with water first, chuck in tablet and swallow. its how i used to do it when i struglled

Reply 4

I dont get how people cant swallow tablets. just put it in a cup of water and down the drink if your finding it hard

Reply 5

Some people do find it difficult. Are they soluble? If so you could grind them up and mix it with water and drink the water.

Reply 6

There not at all soluble there those rubbery captule things that are filled with powder they feel so unatural to swallow.

Reply 7

ok ive emptyed the contents into a cup of water is it a good idea or might it kill me. it seems ok because the caseing just looks plastic and unatural i think the powder is the acctuall medcine. speek now or forever hold your peace.

Reply 8

Inject them

Reply 9

it is. the plastic is to release it in the stomach or where ever its being released afaik

I used to not be able to swallow tablets at all, now I can if I do it one at a time. I actually prefer the capsule ones because I don't always manage to swallow it first time and others tend to start dissolving or get all sticky.

Anyway, first of all, try to relax. If you're tense, it's going to be even more difficult. For me, that means doing it without anyone watching! What I did was put one right at the back of my mouth with one hand, get a mouthful of a drink from a glass in my other hand, tip my head back and swallow the drink, all as fast as possible. If it doesn't work the first time, I just take another drink, tip my head back and try and swallow again until it does. At first it was all very quick and rushed and often my throat hurt because my throat was too tense but these days I can do it without any problems most the time.

i can empathise with the OP as i was in a similar predicament a few years back. Managed to swallot tablets eventually using the old smarties/haribo technique. basically, i'm guessing that when you eat Haribo's you have to have a few chews on the sweet first. Count how many times you chew before swallowing(let's say five chews). Then take another Haribo and count out the five chews and swallow. This way you are conditioning yourself to swallow after five chews. then slip in a smartie after a while of eating and see if you can chew the haribo and swallow both it and the smartie. then anytime you need a tablet, have a chew on a haribo first. hope my mad method helps xx

DO NOT TAKE THAT MEDICINE. You shouldn't take them out of the capsule, the capsule is designed to allow the medicine to be absorbed at a specific rate, you should never tamper with your medicine before taking it. If you seriously cannot swallow it, go back to your doctor, he may be able to put you on water soluble anti-biotics.

I use to take tablets with biscuits when i couldnt swallow them. Or just push one to the back of your throat and drink lots of water? :s-smilie: Practise.

Relax, have some water, tilt your head back, drop it in at the back and gulp it down...works for me anyway. Try not to think about it - you have to just do it, if you see what I mean.

Reply 15

...I chew them. Even capsules. But what 3232 said made sense, although I've never heard it before. Go back, see your doctor and get some soluble ones. And no, it's not too much hassle. These are your exams and are massively important. Do it.

I swallow paracetamol two at a time; but I'm 'hardcore'.

I find sticking it under ur tounge, then filling ur mouth with water works a treat, i didnt use to be able to do it, then just suddenly could lol.

But ur not alone, my girlfriend cant do it and neither can another of my housemates. Seems quite common infact.

That's right I can't swallow tablets. Can manage non-coated ones when I really have to if I stick them in some ice cream and just swallow the spoonful of ice cream without really stopping to chew. I find Ben and Jerrys Chocolate Fudge Brownie works the best because it already has bits in it so the tablet just gets lost amongst them.
