Why do girls who sleep around get called slags?

After reading a few thread on this board it would apper that, and not only on this board but life in general that females seem to get a really bad name for shagging around? and usually from other girls (well on this site anway) why is this? im a man and i love shagging, i slept around when i was younger it seemed to be cool for me (a man) to do it but not for girls if it was'nt for the girls "letting us in" erm..so to speak us men would never get it?.

Anyway the point is its just wrong to call girls slags, slappers, sluts, tramps, or whatever they enjoy sex just as much as we do......i just dont get it? :confused:

It's the world we live in. Same reason you'll hear a woman being called a spinster if she's old and not married, whilst a guy is still a bachelor.

I believe it is because it is instinctive for men to "sleep around" and not for women (as they would have become pregnant).......the social modernization of our ideology has yet to catch to catch up with our freedoms.

Its insecure/jealous people that call girls slags. I've never, ever met a bloke thats completely happy with himself and good with women call a woman a 'slag'....similarly, girls that don't limit themselves prudishly are usually the nicest and most secure ones as well.

Girls should be allowed to enjoy sex as much as guys....after all, its much more pleasurable for a girl anyway. As long as the reason for having sex is the love of sex, and not some sort of gain (i.e using sex to get something/somewhere) than that girl is definitely not a slag.

People are so fricking judgmental...they should really learn to open their minds.

According to my psych teacher the evolutionary explanation is because ages ago men couldn't know whether the baby their partner was carrying was theirs, and so to deter the woman from 'sleeping around' and the man ending up raising another mans child they were (and still are) looked down upon and given bad names such as 'slag'.

I don't care if girls do sleep around, but they shouldn't be surprised if society calls them slags. It is unfair but that is the inequalities of society.

Sadly, that's just how it is. If you're a guy and you sleep around then you're great, you're fantastic and people will look up to you. If you're a girl and sleep around you're seen as being dirty, and a slag. It's always been like that, and I firmly believe that it probably will stay that way for a very long time.

In society, it's not always seen as acceptable, I think on that front a lot of people are quite old fasioned. Men are always seen as the more dominant sexual beings, it's the same today despite the fact we know that women love sex just as much as men. I don't see that changing any time soon, we're very set in our ways on that front and it would be difficult to get out of.

I'm more likely to judge someone on their attitude rather than a number. If you keep it quiet, keep it personal then i'll respect that. If you're showing off and boasting, I wont give you the time of day. Be that a man, or a woman.

I've thought people were slags, but i'm very happy and proud to admit that i've slept with one person, and one person only. I'm not insecure, and i'm not jealous because I don't want 42 different sleeping partners. I judge people on their attitude, how the person actually is, not on a number and I certainly don't do it because I want to be like them. If I want to be like them, i'll do it.

I don't think men are solely to blame for this. I have seen so many girls calling other girls slags behind their backs in order to tarnish reputations and to generally be bitchy. Jealousy from other women must be a big factor in some women being known as 'slags' in society.

We are talking about "sleeping around" meanin sleeping with people when they are with someone, and what girls dont turn on men who do this?! Corse they do!

I totally agree. What annoys me more than people calling anyone a "slag"/"slut"/"whore" is that a lot of people use it to refer to people who aren't remotely like this...
"I saw this girl flirting with my bf, what a slutty whore"
"This girl cheated on her boyfriend one night, what a slag"
I've seen it on this forum and with people in real life. The sad thing is that these words have become the norm to describe female behaviour, nomatter how nonsensical it is.
