I'm torn between Vanbrugh and Derwent ? I'm not particularly musical or sporty but like the sound of the social aspects of these colleges. Is one better than the other ect. ?

I'm similarly torn. Vanbrugh looks more central though

I'm a first year living in Halifax. I would not worry about a difference in centrality between Vanbrugh and Derwent, they are about 2 mins walk from each other, and dependant on where you want to be/go they are each just as central. In terms of social aspects, Derwent is know for having party animals, so if thats your thing, I;d go for Derwent. However the accommodation is less nice (although it is cheaper), and I'm unsure if Derwent has any catered accommodation, whilst Vanbrugh has that option.

Heard Derwent is known for parties, personally I think I'll go for that. Would you guys advice catered or self catered though? Is there any difference between the two besides the eating?

I end up going for catered because apparently you meet more people that way but I'm not really sure it makes that much difference

Personally: go self-catered. You can still eat at university outlets reasonably cheaply when you don't want to cook, but you get better cooking facilities for when you do.
