Im so confused on reaction of aliphatic amine with nitrous acid
Is it :
R-NH2 + nitrous acid (NaNO2 + HCl) --> R-OH + N2 + HCl
or is it:
R-N+-Cl- + nitrous acid below 10 degrees --> R-OH + N2 + HCl ?
or is it both? my teachers notes have it really confusing and I don't know which to follow for exams?
